Can you cook turkey and pork in the same roasting tin together?
It is not recommended to cook turkey and pork together in the same roasting tin.
Here's why:
* Different Cooking Temperatures: Turkey and pork require different internal temperatures to be cooked safely. Turkey needs to reach 165°F (74°C), while pork should reach 145°F (63°C).
* Cross-Contamination Risk: Even if you cook them to their respective safe temperatures, there's a risk of cross-contamination between the raw juices of the pork and the cooked turkey. This could lead to foodborne illness.
Instead, it's best to:
* Cook them separately: Use two separate roasting tins and cook them at the appropriate temperatures for each type of meat.
* Cook the pork first: Since pork cooks faster than turkey, it's a good idea to cook the pork first and then remove it from the oven before adding the turkey. This way, the turkey can cook to its safe internal temperature without the pork getting overcooked.
Important Note: Always use a meat thermometer to ensure both the turkey and pork reach their safe internal temperatures.
