Can you put a warm turkey in fridge after cooking?
It is not recommended to put a warm turkey directly into the fridge.
Here's why:
* Food Safety Risk: Warm food creates a breeding ground for bacteria. Putting a hot turkey in the fridge can raise the overall temperature inside, potentially causing other foods to spoil.
* Uneven Cooling: A large turkey will take a long time to cool down in the fridge, increasing the risk of bacteria growth.
* Spoilage: The surface of the turkey could become contaminated with bacteria while it cools, which could then spread to the rest of the meat.
Instead, you should:
* Cool the turkey quickly: Let it cool to room temperature (around 90°F) before refrigerating. You can do this by placing it in a large bowl of ice water or using a fan to circulate air around it.
* Refrigerate within two hours: Once the turkey has cooled to room temperature, refrigerate it promptly.
* Store it properly: Place the turkey in a shallow container, uncovered, to allow for faster cooling.
Remember, it's always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to food safety.
