What continent did hummus come from?

Hummus is a Levantine Arab dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. While it is difficult to pinpoint the exact origins of hummus, it is believed to have originated in the Middle East, specifically in the Levant region, encompassing modern-day countries like Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Palestine and Jordan. The early forms of hummus were documented in Egyptian cookbooks dating back to the 13th century. Over time, hummus spread throughout the Middle East and eventually became popular in other parts of the world, particularly in the Mediterranean region and beyond.
