How to Cook With Dried Mango

The sweet orange flesh of mango is often dried for a quick and easy snack. Popular throughout tropical regions and other parts of the world, the mango is generally dried using food dehydrators. With thin slices and a long lasting shelf life, dried mango is an ideal food to keep around to add to a variety of recipes. Fruit can be found sulphured --- to preserve its life and color --- or unsulphured, depending on preference and allergies.

Things You'll Need

  • Dried mango
  • Large pot
  • Water
  • Stir spoon
  • Fork
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp kitchen knife

Instructions

  1. Cut the mangos into the sizes you desire or need for the specific recipe.

  2. Rinse the dried mango to reduce the added sugar content on the surface of the fruit .Place the dried mango in the pot. Pour enough water over top to cover it by 1/2 inch. Simmer the mango to rehydrate it and use it in a variety of recipes where fresh mango would normally be used.

  3. Slice the mangoes in to thin strips and place them on top of salads. Alternatively, mince the dried mango and add them to salad dressings. This will not only rehydrate the mango, but it will also add flavor to the dressing.

  4. Create a chutney or sweet sauce with the mango by adding it to other ingredients, such as stock and vinegar, and simmer it on the stove.

  5. Cut the mangoes in to small or large chunks and add them to batters for baking, from bread to sweet desserts. Dried mango adds texture and taste to a variety of baked goods.
