How to Cook Fresh Corn on the Cob on the Stove Top
Fresh corn on the cob is a summertime delicacy. Due to its naturally sweet flavor, corn on the cob can be eaten with nothing more than butter and a sprinkle of salt. There are several ways to cook fresh-shucked corn on the cob, such as grilling and microwaving. The easiest way to prepare the corn on a stove top is by boiling it. Be sure not to overcook the corn or it might loose some of its sweet flavor.
Things You'll Need
- Large pot or kettle
Instructions
-
Fill a large pot or kettle with water and bring it to a boil. Don't add salt to the water because it can make the corn kernels tough.
-
Remove the husks and silk from the corn on the cob. Place the ears of corn into the boiling water.
-
Cover the pan with a lid and bring the water back to a boil. Cook the corn 3 to 5 minutes, or until the kernels are tender. Test the kernels for tenderness by gently prodding them with a fork.
-
Drain the water from the pot and transfer the ears of corn onto a serving platter.
