How do you make dulce de leche?

To make dulce de leche, follow these steps:

Ingredients:

- 1 can of sweetened condensed milk (14 ounces)

- 2 cups of whole milk

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- Optional: 1/4 cup of sugar

Instructions:

1. Carefully open the can of condensed milk and empty its contents into a medium saucepan.

2. Add the whole milk and stir until the condensed milk is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth and creamy.

3. Bring the milk mixture to a simmer over medium-heat and cook, stirring frequently, for about 40-50 minutes or until the mixture turns a caramel brown color and thickens to the consistency of a smooth, spreadable sauce.

4. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for another 5 minutes, stirring constantly, to prevent burning.

5. Stir in the vanilla extract. Taste and add additional sugar if desired, but this step is optional as condensed milk is already sweet.

6. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely before serving or storing.

Tips:

- Be patient and stir constantly to prevent the mixture from burning or sticking to the bottom of the pan.

- If the mixture becomes too thick, add a small amount of whole milk or water and stir until desired consistency is reached.

- Dulce de leche can be used as a topping for ice cream, pancakes, waffles, or as a filling for cakes, pastries, and other desserts.

- It can also be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or frozen for longer storage.
