What is the best way to clean an Atlas pasta machine?
To properly clean an Atlas pasta machine, follow these steps:
Step 1: Disassemble the machine
- First, turn the knob to unlock the machine and lift off the crank handle.
- Remove the motor and speed adjusting caps by turning them counterclockwise.
- Then loosen and remove the lower knob which holds the clamp in place.
- Lastly, loosen and remove the 2 knobs that hold the handle bracket.
- This will separate the machine into 2 main pieces for cleaning.
Step 2: Wipe the exterior
- Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe away any dirt or residue from the exterior of the machine.
- Pay careful attention to the areas around the knobs and crevices.
- Ensure that all surfaces are clean and dry before moving on to the next step.
Step 3: Clean the components
- Dismantle the machine further by separating the 2 main pieces.
- Remove the plastic gear, the feed roller and the cutting rollers from the body.
- You may need a small screwdriver or plier to disengage the shaft at the bottom that connects both bodies.
- Use warm, soapy water to wash the components.
- Rinse them thoroughly and make sure to dry them with a clean cloth or let them air dry completely.
Step 4: Lubricate the moving parts
- Once all the components are cleaned and dried, it is important to lubricate the moving parts of the machine.
- Use a food-grade lubricant, such as mineral oil, to lubricate the gears, shafts and rollers.
- Apply the lubricant sparingly and wipe off any excess with a clean cloth.
Step 5: Reassemble the machine
- Once lubricated, reassemble the machine by following the reverse order of disassembly.
- Make sure that all the parts are properly aligned and the knobs are securely tightened.
- Reinstall the motor, speed adjusting caps, lower knob and handle bracket knobs.
- Check that the machine is functioning correctly by turning the handle a few times.
By following these steps, you can effectively clean and maintain your Atlas pasta machine, ensuring that it continues to produce perfectly shaped and textured pasta.
