How to Make Easy Meatball Subs (5 Steps)

Homemade meatball subs are much tastier, cheaper and healthier than any sub shop sandwiches. Whether you use homemade or frozen store-bought meatballs, the whole family will be delightfully stuffed.

Things You'll Need

  • Olive oil
  • Meatballs (4 to 8 per sub, depending on meatball size)
  • Spaghetti sauce (1 cup per sandwich)
  • Garlic, minced (2 to 4 cloves per sandwich or to taste)
  • Seasonings
  • Italian hoagies
  • Shredded mozzarella

Instructions

  1. In a large pan on the stove top, heat spaghetti sauce, meatballs, 1 tbsp. olive oil and garlic over medium-low heat for 20 minutes. Season to taste using your favorite spices.

  2. Use Italian hoagies found in the bread aisle of your grocery store. They are softer and more fresh than sub shop hoagies and are delicious when toasted. Split hoagies in half and arrange them face-up on tin foil on a baking sheet. Heat oven to 425 F.

  3. Spoon meatballs and sauce over bottom halves of hoagies. Cover both halves with shredded mozzarella cheese.

  4. Toast in 425 F oven for about 6 minutes, until cheese is melted and the hoagies are slightly toasted. Close sandwiches and dig in!

  5. Leftover meatballs and sauce can be refrigerated for later use.
