What color should raw chicken be?
Raw chicken should be a pale, grayish-white color. It may sometimes have a slight yellow tinge, especially if it's from a bird that was fed a diet with a lot of yellow corn.
Here's what you should NOT see:
* Green or blue: This indicates bacterial growth and the chicken is spoiled.
* Red: While chicken can sometimes have a reddish hue, it's usually a sign of the chicken not being properly drained of blood after processing.
* Brown or black: This could be a sign of discoloration due to age or improper handling.
Important Note: Color alone is not the only indicator of freshness. It's important to also check for other signs of spoilage, such as:
* An unpleasant odor
* A slimy texture
* Any visible mold or discoloration
If you're unsure about the freshness of chicken, it's best to err on the side of caution and discard it.
