How to build a laying box for chickens?

Materials:

- 1 piece of plywood (1/2-inch thick, at least 2 feet by 4 feet)

- 12 2x4s (8 feet long)

- 16 1-1/4-inch wood screws

- 4 heavy-duty hinges

- 1 piece of hardware cloth (1/4-inch mesh, at least 2 feet by 4 feet)

- A saw

- A drill

- A measuring tape

- A pencil

- A level

Instructions:

1. Cut the plywood into two pieces:

- One piece 2 feet by 4 feet

- One piece 2 feet by 2 feet

2. Cut the 2x4s into the following lengths:

- Eight pieces 2 feet long

- Four pieces 4 feet long

3. Assemble the frame of the laying box by attaching the 2-foot pieces to the 4-foot pieces with wood screws. The finished frame should be a rectangle 4 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 2 feet tall.

4. Attach the hardware cloth to the bottom of the laying box with wood screws. Make sure the hardware cloth is pulled tight and there are no gaps.

5. Attach the two pieces of plywood to the frame of the laying box with wood screws. The 4-foot piece of plywood should go on the front of the laying box, and the 2-foot piece of plywood should go on the back.

6. Attach the hinges to the top of the laying box and the lid. Make sure the hinges are evenly spaced.

7. Use a level to make sure the laying box is level before placing it in the chicken coop.

Tips:

- Place the laying box in a quiet, dark corner of the chicken coop.

-Add straw or hay to the laying box to make it more comfortable for the chickens.

-Empty the laying box daily to prevent the eggs from becoming soiled.
