How Should I Dispose of N20 Chargers? (3 Steps)
Whipped cream chargers are filled with nitrous oxide, or N20, a potentially dangerous gas if handled improperly. These chargers are commonly used in whipped cream dispensers. Because they contain nitrous oxide, you should take care to safely dispose the canister. Instead of throwing the N20 chargers in the trash can, you should recycle them with a local recycling center in your area. This prevents the chance that the charger will be used improperly. Nitrogen oxide helps form acid rain, hampers plant growth and contributes to global warming.
Instructions
-
Locate a local recycling facility in your area. Go to either the Earth 911 or The Recycling Center website. Enter your zip code and note the location of the closest recycling center.
-
Call the recycling center that you located. Tell them that you have N2O chargers and you would like to dispose of them. Tell them they are made of steel. Ask them whether they will accept the chargers. Finally, ask whether you need to place the chargers in a plastic bag or some other storage unit.
-
Take the chargers to the recycling center's location during their business hours. Tell the responding agent that the chargers are made of steel so that they can place the chargers in the right pile of recyclables.
