What type of number is pie?

It's "pi", not "pie".

Pi (π) is an irrational number. This means:

* It cannot be expressed as a simple fraction. You can't write it as a/b, where a and b are whole numbers.

* Its decimal representation goes on forever without repeating. You might know the approximation 3.14, but that's just a small part of its decimal expansion.

Pi is also a transcendental number, meaning it's not a root of any polynomial equation with integer coefficients. This makes it a special type of irrational number.
