Where did cookies originally come from?
Cookies have a long and storied history that can be traced back to the 7th century AD in Persia, where they were first developed. The word "cookie" is derived from the Dutch word "koekje," which means "little cake." Cookies were originally made with simple ingredients such as flour, sugar, butter, and spices, and they were often used as a way to use up leftover dough from bread-making. Over time, cookies became more elaborate, with the addition of nuts, dried fruits, and other ingredients. By the 16th century, cookies had become a popular treat throughout Europe, and they were often served at special occasions such as weddings and holidays. In the 17th century, cookies were brought to the Americas by European colonists, and they quickly became a popular treat here as well. Today, cookies are enjoyed by people all over the world, and there are countless different varieties to choose from.
