Potato Harvesting Timeline
- 6 to 8 weeks after planting: New potatoes are ready to be dug.
- 8 to 12 weeks after planting: The foliage of maincrop potatoes start to turn yellow and die.
- 2 to 3 weeks later (10 to 15 weeks after planting): The skins have set, and the potatoes can be dug.
_Other Indicators that Potatoes are Ready to Harvest:_
- The plant's stems and leaves begin to wilt and turn yellow.
- The potatoes swell and push the soil above them.
- The small roots near the surface of the potatoes have been replaced by a rough brown or tan "skin."
- The tubers should be firm and well-formed, with no cracks or blemishes.
- You should be able to gently rub off the skins of the potatoes without damaging the flesh.
