What if your store bought fondant is hard?
Here are some tips to soften hard store-bought fondant:
- Microwave the fondant. Place the fondant in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it on low power for 10-15 seconds at a time, stirring in between. Be careful not to overheat the fondant, as it can become too soft and sticky.
- Knead the fondant. Kneading the fondant will help to soften it and make it more pliable. You can knead the fondant by hand or use a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook.
- Add a little water or glycerin. If the fondant is still too hard, you can add a little water or glycerin to it. Start by adding a small amount of liquid and then knead the fondant until it reaches the desired consistency.
- Cover the fondant. If you're not going to use the fondant right away, cover it with plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out.
- Let the fondant sit at room temperature. Fondant that is too cold will be harder than fondant that is at room temperature. If the fondant is too hard, let it sit at room temperature for a while before using it.
Remember, you can always test the consistency of the fondant by rolling a small piece into a ball. If the fondant is too sticky, add a little more powdered sugar. If the fondant is too dry, add a little more water or glycerin.
