What country do french fries come from?

While we call them "French fries," they actually don't originate from France.

They are believed to have originated in Belgium, specifically the region of Flanders, where they were called "frieten" or "frites".

American soldiers stationed in Belgium during World War I enjoyed the fried potato strips and brought the name "French fries" back to the US, possibly because of the French influence in the region.
