Is eucalyptus a good wood to burn in wood-burning stove?
No. While it may feel tempting to go for eucalyptus due to its aromatic leaves, Eucalyptus has a high oil content which when burned, can release toxic fumes as well as soot, which contributes to a buildup of creosote in your chimney. Eucalyptus contains flammable oils that can cause dangerous flare-ups. In short, avoid Eucalyptus as firewood even though it offers appealing, citrusy aromas when the leaves are crushed. For safe burning in your wood stove always go to seasoned dry, hardwoods such as Oak, Cherry and Hickory.
