How long can a cooked turkey be left out?

It's not safe to leave cooked turkey out at room temperature for more than two hours.

Here's why:

* Bacteria growth: Bacteria multiply rapidly at room temperature. Leaving cooked turkey out for too long allows these bacteria to grow and potentially cause food poisoning.

* The Danger Zone: The "danger zone" for bacteria growth is between 40°F (4°C) and 140°F (60°C). Room temperature falls within this range.

To ensure food safety:

* Refrigerate cooked turkey within two hours of cooking.

* If the temperature outside is above 90°F (32°C), refrigerate within one hour.

* Divide large quantities of turkey into smaller containers for faster cooling.

Remember: It's always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to food safety. If you're unsure, it's best to discard the turkey and start fresh.
