How long does roast pork with cider gravy take to prepare?
Ingredients:
- 3 - 5 pound pork shoulder
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon cold water
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2. In a large bowl, combine the pork shoulder, apple cider, water, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, thyme, sage, salt, and pepper. Stir to coat the pork.
3. Place the pork shoulder in a roasting pan and cover with foil. Roast for 2-3 hours, or until the pork is cooked through and tender.
4. Remove the foil and continue roasting for 30 minutes, or until the pork is browned.
5. Remove the pork from the roasting pan and set aside.
6. Strain the pan juices into a saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
7. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Add to the saucepan and cook, stirring constantly, until the gravy has thickened.
8. Serve the roast pork with the cider gravy.
Tips:
- If you don't have a roasting pan, you can use a large baking dish.
- To test if the pork is cooked through, insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the meat. The pork is done when the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F (71 degrees C).
- If you want a thicker gravy, you can add more cornstarch and water.
- The roast pork with cider gravy can be made ahead of time and reheated in the oven.
- Serve the roast pork with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, green beans, and corn.
