Where does tomato pasta sauce come from?
Tomato pasta sauce is a sauce for pasta made with tomatoes as the primary ingredient.
The origins of tomato sauce can be traced back to the 16th century, when tomatoes were introduced to Europe from the Americas. At the time, tomatoes were considered to be a novelty and were not widely used in cooking. However, by the 17th century, tomatoes had become a popular ingredient in Italian cuisine and were being used to make sauces for pasta.
The earliest known recipe for tomato sauce dates back to 1692 and was published in a cookbook by the Italian chef Antonio Latini. This recipe called for tomatoes, garlic, onions, olive oil, and salt and was used as a condiment for pasta. Over time, the recipe for tomato sauce evolved to include other ingredients, such as basil, oregano, and black pepper.
Today, tomato pasta sauce is a popular dish all over the world. It is used in a variety of dishes, including spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, and pizza.
