If a steak was left out for two days is it still safe to eat?

It is generally not safe to eat a steak that has been left out at room temperature for two days. Bacteria can multiply rapidly at room temperature, and can cause food poisoning if ingested. Even if the steak has been cooked thoroughly, it can still become contaminated with bacteria after it has been left out.

The USDA recommends that perishable foods, such as steak, be refrigerated or frozen within two hours of cooking or thawing. If a steak has been left out for more than two hours at room temperature, it should be discarded.
