* 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
* 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
* For the vegetables:
* 1 cup chopped broccoli florets
* 1 cup chopped carrots
* 1/2 cup chopped water chestnuts
* 1/2 cup snow peas
Instructions:
1. Prepare the chicken: In a medium bowl, combine the chicken pieces, soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Toss to coat evenly. Set aside.
2. Make the sauce: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion, green pepper, and celery, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
3. Add the tomatoes, broth, and seasonings: Stir in the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, soy sauce, cornstarch, ginger, garlic powder, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Cook the chicken: Add the marinated chicken to the skillet and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes.
5. Add the vegetables: Stir in the broccoli, carrots, water chestnuts, and snow peas. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until vegetables are tender-crisp.
6. Serve: Serve the chicken chop suey hot over rice.
Tips:
* You can use different vegetables depending on what you have on hand. Mushrooms, snap peas, and bean sprouts are all great additions.
* For a spicier chop suey, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
