What is apple pie pudding model of atom?
The apple pie pudding model of atom was proposed in 1904 by the British physicist JJ Thomson. According to this model, an atom is viewed as a sphere of positive charge with electrons embedded in it like raisins in a pudding, in a symmetric manner.
The apple pie pudding model, also called the plum pudding model, depicted the atom as a uniform, positively-charged sphere with the negatively charged electrons scattered randomly throughout the sphere, much like currants in a bun or plums in a pudding.
Thomson's model was based on his experiments with cathode rays, which showed that atoms contain negatively-charged particles (later called electrons), and on the assumption that the atom as a whole is neutral. He proposed that the positive charge was evenly distributed throughout the atom and that the negatively-charged electrons were embedded in it.
This model was significant as it introduced the concept of electrons and positive charges within an atom, but it lacked the understanding of the arrangement and organization of electrons, which later led to the more accurate Rutherford model and subsequent atomic models.
