Why does a pecan pie have to be stored in the refrigerator?
A pecan pie does not have to be stored in the refrigerator. While it is true that many foods containing eggs, such as custard, cream, or meringue, require refrigeration, pecan pie filling is safe at room temperature for up to two days, according to the USDA. Some people, in fact, prefer to consume their pecan pie at room temperature. However, if you are concerned about storage due to the weather conditions or want to prolong its freshness, refrigeration is recommended.
