How to Make Homemade Blueberry Pie Filling (3 Steps)
Making your own blueberry pie filling allows you to not only create a delicious dessert but be healthy as well. Very low in fat, blueberries contain plenty of dietary fiber, Vitamin C and antioxidants. Homemade blueberry pie filling is easy to make from scratch and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours until you are ready to use it in a pie, bake it in a cobbler or pour it over vanilla ice cream for a unique dessert. This recipe yields enough filling for one 9-inch pie.
Things You'll Need
- 5 cups fresh blueberries
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions
-
Thoroughly wash the berries by placing them in a colander and running cool water over them. Lift up the berries by hand under the water and gently move them about to inspect for any damaged, moldy or underripe berries. Discard any that don't look good.
-
In a large bowl toss the blueberries, sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt with a rubber spatula until it's well combined.
-
Pour immediately into prepared pie crusts, or store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 24 hours.
