Self rising flour instead of plain in cheese sauce?

It's not recommended to use self-rising flour in a cheese sauce. Here's why:

* Self-rising flour contains baking powder. This will cause the cheese sauce to become bubbly and potentially grainy, as the baking powder reacts with the moisture in the sauce.

* The salt in self-rising flour will affect the flavor. The extra salt may make the sauce too salty.

* The texture won't be smooth. The baking powder and additional ingredients in self-rising flour will make the sauce thicker and less smooth than using plain flour.

Instead of using self-rising flour, use plain all-purpose flour.

To make a cheese sauce, use this recipe:

Ingredients:

* 2 tablespoons butter

* 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

* 1 cup milk

* 1/4 teaspoon salt

* 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

* 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Colby, Monterey Jack, or your favorite)

Instructions:

1. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

2. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

3. Gradually whisk in milk, until smooth.

4. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly.

5. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

6. Remove from heat and stir in cheese until melted and smooth.

7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Important Note: You can use cornstarch instead of flour for a smoother, silkier sauce.
