How to Melt Chocolate Chips to Make Pretzels (9 Steps)
Chocolate has come a long way from its introduction in a bitter drink that the ancient Mayans and Aztecs served during ceremonial and religious rites. Today, chocolate is used in everything from gooey desserts to savory dishes, and the sweet-and-salty combination of chocolate-covered pretzels is especially delicious. Melting store-bought chocolate chips to cover pretzels is a convenient and easy process that can be done at home.
Things You'll Need
- Heat-proof bowl
- Saucepan
- 12-oz. bag of chocolate chips
- Spoon
Stovetop Method
-
Heat 1 inch of water in a saucepan over low heat. If it begins to simmer too rapidly, lower the heat so the water doesn't splatter.
-
Set a dry, snug-fitting bowl atop the saucepan.
-
Pour the chocolate chips into the bowl.
-
Stir the chips with a dry spoon as they begin to melt. Continue to stir until the chocolate is smooth and all the chips are completely melted.
-
Remove the bowl from the saucepan, taking care not to get any water in the bowl.
Microwave Method
-
Pour the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl.
-
Microwave the chips on high for 1 minute.
-
Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the chocolate.
-
Return the bowl to the microwave and heat in 30-second increments, stirring after each time, until the chocolate is smooth.
