How to Make Bakery-Style Cake Frosting
Prepare homemade cake frosting and decorations that look like they were made in a bakery. Bakery-style cake frosting holds up especially well during parties; the frosting won't melt if the cake sits out. This simple frosting recipe calls for margarine -- it won't turn out properly if you replace this ingredient with butter.
Things You'll Need
- 1 cup milk
- 4 tbsp. flour
- Saucepan
- Spoon
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1/2 cup shortening
- Hand or stand mixer
- 2 dashes salt
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
-
Combine 1 cup milk with 4 tbsp. flour in a medium saucepan over low heat. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens. Remove the saucepan from the stove. Let the milk mixture cool.
-
Cream 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup softened margarine and 1/2 cup shortening until light and airy.
-
Add two dashes of salt to your creamed margarine, sugar and shortening mixture.
-
Add your milk mixture to your creamed margarine. Beat well until the mixture doubles.
-
Add 2 tsp. vanilla and 1 cup powdered sugar to your milk and margarine mixture. Beat until fluffy.
