How To Make Zebra Stripes With Frosting
When baking and serving cake, the frosting on top becomes a very important part of the presentation. Although the pattern of frosting will not affect how the end product tastes, doing it right will help you impress your audience. This is especially true if you decorate the pastry with a seemingly complicated design, such as zebra stripes. When done correctly, not only will the look of the pastry wow your guests, it may even make the dessert seem more delicious.
Things You'll Need
- Cake
- Buttercream frosting
- Black icing coloring paste
- Pastry decorating bags and tips
Instructions
-
Cover your baked cake with a layer of the buttercream frosting. Smooth out the sides of the cake so the frosting is even.
-
Tint a separate batch of frosting black with the black icing coloring paste. Mix it well to avoid uneven coloring.
-
Fill a decorating bag with a tip of your choosing with the black-dyed frosting.
-
Outline zebra stripes over the cake using the black-dyed frosting in the decorating bag, making sure to keep the patterns uneven and random to give it a more natural effect. Use a picture of a zebra for reference if you need to.
-
Fill in the outlines with more of the dyed frosting, making sure to color in all the spaces in the pattern.
