How to Cut a Cake Into Eight Pieces With Three Knife Cuts
Bar bets are neat tricks that almost anyone can perform. Ask a crowd if they think they can do something almost impossible, then take bets on whether you can do the task. After all bets are made, do the task in a totally unexpected way. Cutting a cake into eight equal pieces with only three cuts is the culinary version of a bar bet. Novice bakers and cake decorators have fallen for it for years. Make this bet, and earn your own week without dishes or floor scrubbing duty.
Things You'll Need
- Plain cake
- Serving plate
- Sharp knife
Instructions
-
Place a plain round cake onto a serving dish. Use an angel food cake, bundt cake or a single cake layer.
-
Make one cut vertically across the center of the cake. You now have a cake cut into two pieces.
-
Rotate the cake 90 degrees and make another cut vertically through the center of the cake. You now have a cake cut into four equal parts.
-
Hold your knife parallel to the plate. Cut the entire cake, horizontally, into two layers. Each layer will consist of four equal pieces, totaling eight pieces of cake in all.
