I was cleaning out the freezer at work with an ice pic. got all frost and but there a small in hole bottom part of freezer. It hissing smelled like freon. Is this poss?

Yes, it is possible that the hissing sound you heard and the smell you detected were due to a leak of Freon, or refrigerant, from your freezer. Freon is a colourless, odourless gas used as a refrigerant in refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners. When it leaks, it can create a hissing sound and a pungent odour.

Refrigerators and freezers contain a compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator. The compressor compresses the refrigerant gas and pumps it into the condenser, a radiator-like device that dissipates heat from the gas, causing it to condense into a liquid. The liquid refrigerant then flows into the expansion valve, where it is metered into the evaporator, a coil of tubing located in the freezer or refrigerator compartment. The refrigerant absorbs heat from the food or other items in the compartment, causing it to vaporize. The vapour is then drawn back into the compressor, and the cycle repeats.

If there is a leak in the refrigeration system, the refrigerant can escape and the system will not be able to cool properly. Refrigerant leaks can be caused by a number of factors, including:

- Damage to the refrigeration lines

- Corrosion

- Loose or worn connections

If you suspect that there is a refrigerant leak in your freezer, it is important to have it repaired by a qualified technician as soon as possible. Refrigerant leaks can be harmful to your health and the environment, and they can also damage the compressor in your freezer.
