How to Use a Mouli (7 Steps)
Mouli is a brand name for a specific type of food mill. The mills are popular for making baby foods and work well for processing small amounts of food. Moulis are simple to use and easily replace blenders and food processors for small job in the kitchen. They are a boon to home canners as the mill will remove seeds and skins from tomatoes and berries when making sauces, jams and jellies.
Things You'll Need
- Large bowl
Instructions
-
Prepare the food you wish to press through the food mill. Foods such as potatoes, hard fruits like apples and vegetables need to be cooked until soft. Berries need only be washed before pressing.
-
Insert the proper blade into the machine if your Mouli came with additional blades. Some older models have only one blade, while newer models include blades for coarse, medium and fine milling.
-
Place the Mouli over a large bowl. Some models include metal tabs that fit over the outside lip of the proper sized bowl.
-
Place the food you wish to process into the basket of the Mouli.
-
Begin turning the handle on the Mouli. The flesh of the fruit or vegetables will drain through the holes on the bottom of the mill into the bowl. The seeds and skin will remain in the Mouli basket.
-
Remove the refuse from the basket. It is now ready to process more food or be cleaned for the next use.
-
Wash and dry the Mouli before storing.
