How to Cut a Mango
There is no way to cut a mango that is not messy. There is, however, a way to cut a mango that is easy and will produce the most flesh and the least waste.
Things You'll Need
- Mango
- Knife
- Cutting board
Instructions
-
Purchase ripe mangoes at the grocery store or farmer's market. When ripe and ready to purchase they will give slightly at the stem end of the fruit when pressed.
-
Wash mangoes thoroughly when you get them home. Even though you are not eating the outside of the mango, you will be slicing through the skin and won't want to pick up any bacteria that is on the outside of the fruit.
-
Stand the mango up with the stem side on the bottom and hold with your non-cutting hand. Place the blade of your knife at the top of the mango and cut down the side without hitting the seed. This will give you a nice flat surface of the mango fruit.
-
Score the fruit of the mango with a knife in 1-inch segments so that you have created a grid. Cut through the flesh but not through the skin.
-
Press the scored mango half inside out and slice the cubes off very close to the skin. Enjoy your fresh mango in a smoothie, a salad or just as a snack.
