How to Cook Squid on the Grill
Calamari might be the favorite way to enjoy squid, but this breaded and fried version tends to take away from the flavor of the squid meat. Switch things up the next time you're heating up your grill for burgers and throw some fresh squid on the grill. If possible, go for fresh squid from a fish market or the seafood counter at your grocery store. Whether your choose bite-sized whole baby squid or fresh squid pre-cut into rings and tentacles, the grill cooks up squid quickly, which you can enjoy on their own or tossed into a salad or even a seafood stew.
Things You'll Need
- Squid, baby squid or squid rings and tentacles
- Paper towels
- Bowl
- Olive oil
- Seasonings, to taste
Instructions
-
Rinse your fresh squid under cold water thoroughly to remove any sand and debris. Pat dry well with paper towels.
-
Marinate the squid in olive oil and seasonings of your choice in a large bowl. You can add complementary seasonings such as lemon juice, garlic and a little salt and paper to test. Loosely cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for about two hours.
-
Prepare your grill for direct heat and preheat an oiled grill pan on the grill.
-
Place the marinated squid onto the grill plate and grill for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side, until the squid is opaque all around and the tentacles are slightly crispy on the ends. Serve hot.
