How to Make Biscuits on the Grill

Hot summer days and home-baked biscuits might seem to be incompatible. After all, who wants a hot oven going when it's over 90 degrees outside? Yet the ability to enjoy a fresh biscuit is as close as the same grill that cooks up the BBQ chicken for dinner. From canned biscuits to cornbread to drop biscuits, the grill can replace the oven. With a little bit of planning, your whole meal can be cooked outdoors, keeping your kitchen and house cooler.

Things You'll Need

  • Cast iron pan
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • Brush (food grade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium. While the grill is preheating, brush the oil into the cast-iron pan.

  2. Add the biscuits to the cast-iron pan. For drop-biscuits, leave a little space in between the biscuits. For other biscuits, leave space for crunchier biscuits or cram together for softer biscuits.

  3. Place the cast-iron on the grill and close the cover. Do not lift the cover until it is time to rotate the pan. After 8 minutes, rotate the pan. Close the cover again.

  4. Check the biscuits after 15 minutes. Continue to cook until browned.
