How long can you soak chicken in buttermilk before frying?

Chicken can be safely soaked in buttermilk for up to 24 hours. However, it is not necessary to soak it for that long. Chicken can be soaked for as little as 30 minutes or up to overnight. The longer you soak the chicken, the more tender it will be, but it is not necessary to soak it for a long time to achieve tender results.
