How to Make Shaped Pancakes (8 Steps)
Pancakes are breakfast treat on their own, but you can add more personality to them by making them in creative shapes. Creating pancakes in shapes such as hearts, stars or flowers brings smiles to the breakfast table. There are two methods that work well for shaping pancakes as you cook them, allowing you to choose a method that works best with the supplies you have on hand. Start with simple shapes at first. You can try more elaborate designs once you get the hang of the technique.
Things You'll Need
- Griddle
- Nonstick spray
- Pancake batter
- Squeeze bottle
- Funnel
- Spatula
- Metal cookie cutters
Squeeze Bottle Method
-
Spray your griddle or frying pan with nonstick cooking spray. Heat on the medium-high setting.
-
Pour your pancake batter into a squeeze bottle. Set a funnel in the bottle opening to make the bottle easier to fill. Screw the lid on tightly.
-
Squeeze the batter onto the heated griddle in the shape desired. Simple shapes, such as hearts, are easiest to make.
-
Cook the pancake until the surface begins to bubble and starts to appear dry. Flip the pancakes over and cook for an additional two minutes.
Cookie Cutter Method
-
Spray your griddle with nonstick cooking spray. Heat the griddle on the medium-high setting.
-
Spray the inside of a large metal cookie cutter with nonstick spray. Set it in the hot griddle so it lays flat.
-
Pour your pancake batter into the cookie cutter. Cook until the top begins to bubble and looks dry.
-
Lift the cookie cutter off the griddle with a pair of tongs. Flip the pancake over and cook for an additional two minutes.
