How to Make Pancakes & Decorate With Fruits (5 Steps)

Whether you’re serving them for a fancy brunch or trying to liven up a weekday breakfast, decorating homemade pancakes with fruit is a flavorful way to create colorful designs. It’s also a quick way to add vitamins and minerals to the dish. The key to creating an attractive breakfast is to arrange the fruit in a thoughtful pattern. It’s also important to cook the pancakes to a perfect golden state so that they look as good as they taste.

Things You'll Need

  • Pancake batter
  • Skillet
  • Cooking spray
  • Spatula
  • Plate
  • Paper towel
  • Knife

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pancake batter, either using a mix or preparing the batter from scratch. Stir additional ingredients into the batter as desired, such as chopped pecans for a nutty taste or blueberries for a sweet taste.

  2. Place a heavy skillet pan over medium heat. Lightly coat the pan with cooking spray. Give the pan time to heat up to hot.

  3. Pour a little batter into the hot pan to create a large circle. Let the pancake cook until the top is covered with bubbles. Flip the pancake over with a spatula and cook until golden, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove pancake from pan and place on plate. Repeat process until desired number of pancakes is reached.

  4. Wash fruit in cold water and pat dry with a paper towel. Cut off stems and de-seed fruit as needed. Cut fruit into bite-size pieces as needed.

  5. Arrange five large pieces of fruit, such as peach slices, in a flower shape in the middle of a pancake. Place a small fruit piece, such as a raspberry, in the middle of the shape to create the center of the flower. Alternately, spoon an assortment of round fruit pieces, such as cherries and blueberries, onto the center of a pancake to create a dotted pattern.
