What does a fertilized egg mature into inside the ovary?
This is a bit of a trick question! A fertilized egg, also known as a zygote, does not mature inside the ovary. Here's why:
* Fertilization happens in the fallopian tube, not the ovary. The egg travels from the ovary to the fallopian tube, where it might meet with a sperm.
* After fertilization, the zygote begins to divide and develop into an embryo. This process happens as the embryo travels down the fallopian tube towards the uterus.
* The embryo eventually implants itself in the lining of the uterus, where it continues to grow and develop into a fetus.
The ovary's role is to produce and release eggs (ova), not to nurture a fertilized egg.
