How many seeds are in a cocoa bean pod?
A cocoa bean pod, also known as a cacao pod, typically contains between 20 to 50 cocoa beans. The beans are arranged in rows inside the pod, surrounded by a sweet, mucilaginous pulp. The pods vary in size depending on the variety of cocoa tree, but on average they are about 15-25 cm (6-10 inches) long and 8-12 cm (3-5 inches) wide. Cocoa pods typically require around 5-6 months to develop fully from flowering to ripening. When ripe, the pods turn from green to a variety of colours, including yellow, orange, or red, indicating that the beans inside are ready for harvest.
