Where does shortbread originate from?

Shortbread is a traditional Scottish biscuit. Although its exact origins are unknown, it is generally accepted that it was first created in Scotland in the early 18th century. The name shortbread comes from the fact that it is made with a high proportion of butter, which makes it crumbly and short in texture. Shortbread was traditionally eaten as a dessert or snack and is often served with cheese, tea, or jam.
