How to Make Bread Crumbs Stick

Add breadcrumbs to a variety of baked or fried meats to add a crisp and tasteful texture to your meals. It is important to follow the simple steps of placing the moist meat into the dry flour and dipping the meat into an egg and milk mixture before covering the meat in breadcrumbs to ensure that they stick effectively. Try making your own breadcrumbs to create a fresh layer of breading for your preferred cut of meat.

Things You'll Need

  • 10 to 12 bread slices
  • Knife
  • Food processor
  • Baking sheet
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Small mixing bowl
  • 1 pound fresh meat

Instructions

  1. Make the bread crumbs by slicing the crust from 10 to 12 slices of bread. This makes enough bread crumbs to cover 1 pound of meat.

  2. Cut the crusts into 1-inch pieces. Place the bread crumbs in a food processor. Blend the crumbs until they you have a combination of fine and coarse crumbs.

  3. Place the bread crumbs on a baking sheet. Bake the bread crumbs in the oven at 300 degrees. The bread crumbs are finished once they are dry and browned.

  4. Allow the bread crumbs to cool completely.

  5. Cover the meat in flour to let the flour soak up the moisture.

  6. Combine 1 egg and 1/2 cup of milk in a small bowl. Dip the meat in a mixture of egg and milk.

  7. Dip the meat into the mixture of bread crumbs to make the crumbs stick. Continue this for each additional piece of meat.
