How to Make Your Own Herb-Seasoned Breadcrumbs

Why buy herb-seasoned breadcrumbs when you can make your own? When you make your own breadcrumbs, you can use all of your favorite herbs and spices instead of having to guess what is in the store-bought brand. It is also a great way to get rid of some almost stale bread, which in turn could save you a few dollars.

Things You'll Need

  • Sliced bread
  • Herbs and spices
  • Food processor
  • Plastic storage bags
  • Airtight container (optional)

Instructions

  1. Select a few slices of bread, such as sourdough, French, whole wheat or regular white bread and place on a large cookie sheet baking pan.

  2. Place the pan in the oven and bake the bread for 15 minutes at 250 degrees or until it has reached your desired firmness.

  3. Select the herbs and spices that you want to use for your breadcrumbs and mix them in a plastic storage bag. Set the bag to the side or allow the herbs to dry, if moist, by placing the bag into the freezer for half an hour.

  4. Place your baked bread into a food processor and blend it until it is crumbled to your desired texture.

  5. Place the breadcrumbs into the plastic storage bag with the herbs and spices and seal it tightly.

  6. Shake the bag to mix the herbs with the breadcrumbs. Record the date that you created the breadcrumbs on the plastic bag. Store the breadcrumbs for up to two months in a refrigerator or airtight container.
