How to Turn Plain Bread Crumbs Into Seasoned Bread Crumbs

Bread crumbs are called for in a number of recipes, but packaged bread crumbs from the grocery store are often high in sodium and not as satisfying as your own hand-seasoned crumbs. A number of seasonings such as parsley, grated Parmesan cheese and oregano add excellent flavor to complement your dishes. Use the seasoned bread crumbs to coat chicken and pork or sprinkle over casseroles before baking for a crispy golden topping. Feel free to experiment by adding your personal favorite seasonings and spices.

Things You'll Need

  • 4 oz. dried bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. dried parsley flakes
  • 1 tsp. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1/4 tsp. dried rosemary, crushed

Instructions

  1. Place bread crumbs into a food processor or blender and process until fine crumbs have formed (if the crumbs are not already in powder form).

  2. Add all additional ingredients and blend until the bread crumbs and seasonings are equally combined.

  3. Remove the bread crumbs and store until ready to use in a sealed plastic bag or other airtight container.
