How to Bake Bread in a Soup Can
If you are looking for an interesting and rustic looking shape for a bread, it can be as simple as the soup you made for dinner. Using a 26 ounce soup can as a bread pan or mold is an interesting way to create small loaves for individual servings. It works best for heavier breads that do not require large air pockets.
Things You'll Need
- Paper towels
- Several 26 ounce soup cans
- Shortening
- Bread dough of choice
- Moist warm towel
- Knife
Instructions
-
Wash the soup cans thoroughly and dry them with paper towels. Remove the label, since cooking this will cause a fire.
-
Apply shortening to the inside of the cans -- enough to leave a whitish film across the interior surface of the can.
-
Place enough dough inside the can to fill it halfway. Cover the tops with moist warm towels and allow to rise for an hour.
-
Preheat the oven to 375 F. Place the cans with the open tops facing upwards. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes. The times may vary depending on your oven.
-
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 30 minutes.
