What do littleneck clams eat?

Littleneck clams are suspension feeders, meaning they filter small particles of food from the water. Their diet consists mainly of phytoplankton, which are microscopic algae, as well as zooplankton, detritus, and bacteria. They use their siphons to draw in water and filter out the food particles, which are then trapped in mucus and transported to their mouths. Littleneck clams prefer to feed in shallow waters with a high concentration of food, and they often feed at night when there is less competition for food.
