How do you eat a mango?
Method 1: Eating with a Knife and Fork
1. Wash the mango. Rinse it under cool running water to remove dirt and debris.
2. Dry the mango. Pat the mango dry with a clean paper towel.
3. Find the stem. The stem is the small, brown bit that protrudes from the top of the mango. You have two options: cut around it or cut the mango into cheeks without completely cutting it off the stem.
4. Cut around the stem (optional). If you want to cut around the stem, use a sharp knife to make a deep incision just on one side of the stem. Avoid cutting all the way through the mango. This will give you two halves of mango.
5. Cut the cheeks (optional). This option keeps the halves of the mango intact. To do so, use a sharp knife to make two deep, parallel incisions on either side of the stem, about ⅓ inch (0.85 centimeters) away from the stem. Be sure to cut all the way through the mango.
6. Peel the skin. If you opted to cut around the stem, you can now pull the peel off of both halves of the mango. If you opted to cut the cheeks, peel the skin away one cheek at time, by pulling at the edges of the skin.
7. Cut out the flesh. Discard any remaining peel and the large, flat seed in the center of the mango. Eat the flesh that is left.
Method 2: Eating with your hands
1. Wash the mango. Rinse the mango under cool running water to remove dirt and debris.
2. Dry the mango. Pat it dry with a clean paper towel.
3. Slice down the sides. Use a sharp knife to make 3 parallel, even slices down the mango.
4. Slice perpendicularly. Cut into the mango on the opposite side of the flat seed.
5. Invert and eat. Gently push out from the peel until the pulp pokes out. Then lift it up and eat it off the peel.
