What type of food did the Australopithecus?

Australopithecus had an omnivorous diet that consisted of leaves, fruits, flowers, roots, fungi, and, based on limited fossil evidence, some insects and carrion. While meat could potentially have been part of their diet, they lacked complex stone tools needed for cutting through animal tissue or butchering, and did not possess the sharp and large, canine teeth of carnivores.
