Are cocoa beans a fruit or vegetable?

Cocoa beans are actually seeds. The cocoa fruit, also known as a cacao pod, is a fruit that grows on the cacao tree. Inside the cocoa pod, you'll find several cocoa beans surrounded by a sweet, white pulp. These beans are then fermented, dried, and roasted to make cocoa powder and chocolate.
