If a new package of bologna sat out overnight is it still good to eat?
It's not a good idea to eat bologna that has sat out overnight. Here's why:
* The Danger Zone: Bacteria grow rapidly between 40°F and 140°F (4°C and 60°C). Bologna left out at room temperature falls squarely within this danger zone, allowing harmful bacteria to multiply.
* Food Safety: Even if the bologna looks and smells fine, bacteria can still be present, making you sick.
* Risk of Illness: Eating spoiled bologna could lead to food poisoning, causing symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.
To be safe, always:
* Refrigerate bologna immediately after opening.
* Never leave perishable foods out for more than 2 hours (1 hour in temperatures above 90°F).
* Discard any bologna that has been out of the refrigerator for an extended period.
It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to food safety.
